I ordered this keechee Premium Bamboo Banana Holder with Fruit Tray for my husband; he’s been trying to remember to eat a banana every morning with breakfast for the potassium. This banana stand holds the fruit from a metal hook; it hangs free instead of sitting on the countertop, so the fruit is supposed to be less likely to get bruised or brown on the bottom. We have a tiny NYC kitchen; there’s not a ton of counter space, so I was a little dubious when my husband asked for a hanging holder, but I was pleased to discover that the tray bottom has space to hold other fruit. There’s a bit of a counter weight necessary; the stand we received easily holds a small bunch of bananas when the tray is filled with peaches or apples, but without adding fruit to the tray, the bananas can be heavy enough to tip the tray. This stand is made from bamboo; it has a silver toned metal hook for the bananas, and comes with a small pack of two silicone stickers you can add to the bottom of the tray to keep it from slipping. The stand we received is a light honey color; it’s slightly warmer than unfinished pine, and it was easy to assemble quickly. The stand came in two large pieces, the tray and the arm. The curved arm piece arrived with the silver toned hook already attached; there were holes pre drilled in both the arm and tray, and all necessary hardware came in a small brown paper envelope. The two included screws came with a small silver toned Allen wrench for assembly. My husband started off using the Allen key, but he finished up with a Philips head screwdriver from his own tool chest. He said the screws were set deeply into the tray, and it was tricky to keep the Allen key attached. I agree—I asked him to finish putting this together, because the Allen key kept slipping out of the pre drilled hole when I tried.I think it’s possible to put this together with the enclosed tool, it just went faster with a larger screwdriver. Once my husband got his tool kit, he finished up in about a minute and a half. I popped on the silicone stickers, and voila, one banana stand. This looks nice on the countertop, and while we’ve only used it for a few days, the underside of the bananas haven’t started to brown as quickly as usual. There’s something inviting about seeing them hanging there—our teenage son notices them in the morning, and grabs one, which is great, since it’s hard to get him to eat breakfast. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to hang two bunches instead of one—the stand has definitely encouraged more banana consumption, and it would be nice to hang two bunches at a time. That being said, a stand that large would probably be too big for our teeny kitchen.I have to take a moment to say that this company goes above and beyond in terms of presentation—this came in a brown cardboard hinged top box suitable for gifting and storage, and the attention to detail was lovely, and gave this a real boutique feel. The pieces of the stand were wrapped in white tissue and secured with a round green sticker; all the packaging was in brown, green, and white tones and felt very organic and upscale. I can be a bit of a sucker for presentation; when I wrap packages, I like to make them attractive, and opening this felt a bit like getting a little present. The stand came with a white and green card sized envelope; inside were assembly instructions and other information. The hardware was in a little brown envelope, and the pieces of the stand were well cushioned in brown cardboard. Someone put thought into how they wanted to present this stand, and unboxing felt like I was opening a box from our neighborhood’s pricey housewares boutique where I do far more window shopping than actual purchasing. At the current price ($24.99) this lovely presentation made the stand feel like a high end gift; it’s also sturdy and attractive. This could make a nice housewarming or apartment warming gift; it would be an unusual addition to a kitchen gift basket for a kitchen shower.I was always a bit dubious about these banana stands, wondering if they would fall over. Well, if you hang too many bananas without a counter weight, yeah, it’s possible. But if you use the bottom tray for a few other fruits, it’s quite sturdy. Seems like common sense My husband really likes this, and our banana consumption continues to rise.I don’t know why they look so much more palatable when hanging from a stand than when sitting in a bowl, maybe they’re just hitting our eye lines at a sweet spot. (We’ll be in trouble if someone invents a hanging Oreo stand… not that my son or husband need any additional invitation to eat more cookies.)Great fruit stand, easy to assemble, and I love the hinged box that opens like a treasure chest and the green/brown/white organic color scheme.
